Sunday triple for Women’s Water Polo

Last Sunday saw Bath Water Polo Ladies 1s taking on their biggest BUCS day of the season so far and started off like many others, with a big bus on the way to the team’s new home pool at Millfield. The day itself was a tournament of 8 matches between Bath, Southampton, UCL, Kings and Surrey and from the start it was always going to be a day full of team work, enthusiasm and blue and gold.

The Bath Ladies 1s team started off their extravaganza against Surrey. From the start they showed their place in the pool and within the first quarter had scored 10 goals to Surrey’s 1; a great start! The rest of the game followed suit and after 25 minutes of intense swimming, defence and attack, the girls finished on top with an incredible final score of 23-3.

Things were not going to stop there though, and with a new mind set for the new game, the Bath girls took on Kings College London.  In the first quarter it was clear this game was going to be a bit more of a nail biter. At half time the scores were level and a motivational team talk was needed to mentally put the girls back into the right place. And boy did this work, the last half of the game was incredible and with exceptional amounts of team work and some incredible shots into goal, the final score of 9-8 left Bath on top again.

With two games down and one to go, the girls were starting to tire but this wasn’t going to stop the captains Holly Clemens and Mimi Barr from giving team talks like no other to get the girls through the last and final game of the day, Bath v UCL. With a current record of being undefeated in BUCS this was a very important match. The game started and gave the Bath ladies a bit of shock with a goal to UCL in the first minute. With this motivational kick, the Bath ladies then powered a few goals into the back of the net to bring them back in contention with UCL. The game continued like this until half time when coach, Joffy Heib set down how the last half of the game was going to go. With just 10 minutes left, 110% effort and simply to put the goals into the back of the net was required. With new positive minds and determination like Bath has never seen before, this is exactly what the girls then produced. Goals started flying and the final score of 12-5 left Bath Ladies 1s once again on top! This meant the girls recorded 3 wins out of 3 for their BUCS tournament day and leaves them having won all four of the BUCS games this season, an amazing effort!

The team look forward to their future matches and are fully determined to keep their winning streak going throughout the season. Well done girls and good luck next time! If you would like some information about joining Bath Water Polo then please contact studentwaterpolo@lists.bath.ac.uk.
