Bath athletes, Chris Hay (23) and Tom Edwards (21) have both been chosen to represent Great Britain fencing and compete against the best in the world at the 2015 Coupe Du Monde in Bern, Switzerland. Bern will be host to 200 world-class competitors who take part in a group stage scenario. Those successful in the groups advance to the knockout round until a victor is deemed best in the world.
Bath Sport and Exercise Science student, Tom, and Biology graduate, Chris, have both acquired ten plus years of experience in fencing and now have a training schedule with more than 20 hours a week. This determination and hard work have placed both Tom and Chris in the top 10 for the National Rankings. These Bath greats don’t plan to stop now, a final push for success in this tournament could result in selection for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Chris Hay’s Olympic ambitions began at a young age when competing in Modern Pentathlon, but due to to illness, Chris was recommended to only compete in one of the 5 sports. Chris decided to continue Fencing and went on to compete in his first international tournament for the under 17 GB team aged only 13.
Tom Edwards first started fencing aged 10, since then he has developed from a local facility at home in Surrey, to having played his first international tournament as an under 17 Junior, and now representing the GB Senior team.
